Nickie made his Welsh league debut at the age of 16 for his home team Blaenrhondda, and after a string of impressive displays he attracted a number of bigger clubs. Nickie then had trials with Cardiff City, Swansea City, Luton Town and West Bromwich Albion.

Nickie made his debut in the Welsh Premier in 2000 with Afan Lido and impressive displays here earned him a call up by Neville Southall into the Welsh under 19 squad. He travelled to Slovakia with the squad and played in the under 19’s UEFA championships.

He currently plays for Barry Town FC.
