Paul began his football career as a youngster at Swindon Town in 1984. He spent nine years at the club, playing under Lou Macari, Ossie Ardiles and Glen Hoddle. In his time with the Robins, he enjoyed two promotions.

Paul also went on to represent Andover FC, Cirencester Town, Forest Green Rovers, Aberystwyth, Bath City & Merthyr Tydfil.

Paul is currently working on his UEFA B coaching badge.
